Drinking from the Fountain

DRINKING FROM THE FOUNTAIN

In the picture, I'm pretending to take a drink from the pretty fountain in the center of the courtyard at our timeshare on the Costa del Sol in Spain (many years ago).  It was a fun photo op in a beautiful setting.  It reminds me of the time when Jesus spoke to the woman at the well and He said, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst.  But the water that I shall give him will become to him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life" John 4:13-14.

Jesus is speaking of the beautiful, eternal fountain of life.  Clean, pure water is one of the blessings God offers to this earth -- for plants and animals and we as humans.  Indeed, it's an absolute necessity for the body.  Without water, we would all soon die.  But, what about the soul?  Jesus was comparing the need for clean, pure physical water to the need for spiritual "water" that nourishes the soul in greater ways than liquid water ever could.

What a wonderful promise Jesus gives to anyone who will drink of that water that He freely gives.  Many centuries before Jesus made the statement at the well, David wrote a Psalm with a similar truth:  "For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we see light" Psalm 36:9.

Oh, to see the light and to drink from the fountain of life!  Jesus offers these life-giving elements to any who will accept them.  He said, "I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly" John 10:10.
