Doors of the Bible

Doors are fascinating, because they may lead to something wonderful, or not. One of the most important doors described in the Bible is the door that was rolled away from the opening to the tomb of Jesus, providing the proof of His wonderful resurrection.  Matthew tells us, "...an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door..." and the angel said, "He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay." (2 & 6)

The most important door is Jesus Himself.  He is the "way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but by Him," John 14;6, and the verse where He describes Himself as THE door is found in the gospel of John, "I am the door, if anyone enters by Me, he will be saved," (10:9).

Another Door verse regarding sheep is also found in John 10, where Jesus describes Himself as the Door to the Sheepfold, "Then Jesus said to them again, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.'"  This statement refers to Jesus as laying down His life to protect the sheep within His sheepfold, which would be His children.

Then, there is an intriguing verse in Revelation 3:8 where Jesus tells the church in Philadelphia, "I know your works.  See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it..."  In this picture, there is an open door that leads into a lovely room - and a second door that is shut.  A verse in Isaiah 22:22, tells us that God is the One who, "opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens."  When we pray to God for guidance, we can ask that He shut the door He does not want us to through and open the door He wants us to go through.

Then there is the verse in Revelation 3:20 where Jesus tells us, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me."  What an amazing and generous offer from the King of kings!

Doors are a part of everyone's lives.  The important thing is to choose the right door when it comes to our eternal destiny.  We are plainly told in Matthew 7:  "Enter by the narrow gate [or door]; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.  Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it," verse 13-14.
