A Day in the Life

What a beautiful sunny, fresh-feeling day the Lord has given us. Of course it immediately reminds me of that great verse in Psalms – “This is the day the Lord has made let us be glad and rejoice therein.” To be filled with peace and have joy in my heart – now that’s what I call a good feeling!

I love to do my Bible studies while I eat breakfast in the morning (whole grain cereal, blueberries when they’re cheap enough, and a pot of hot tea). I’m excited to think that this Bible study time has become a beloved habit with me – how wonderful to actually form a good habit for a change!
I came across a verse this morning that I think is neat: Psalm 45:1 NKJV – “My heart is overflowing with a good theme; I recite my composition concerning the King; my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.” Since I love to praise God and to write – this seemed an appropriate verse. I think the verse might be referring to a person speaking instead of writing, but since it speaks of a “pen” I’m going to claim it for my writing as well (:

Some of you reading this might think – my, how boring that sounds – Bible study. I admit, it does sound that way, but let me tell you, it is so far from boring, you wouldn’t believe! With the right study guides to help the seeker through the Bible (and, of course, the indwelling Holy Spirit as the ultimate guide), the meaning of life and the depth of God’s love will be opened up to you in a magnificent way.

For years upon years, I was faithful and active in church, loved God and tried to do what was right. I had glimpses of His wonder and even taught Sunday School. I was at a certain level in my Christian life and just kind of stayed there for a long time. Admittedly, my life was very busy with young children, then teenage children, and so forth. Then, I was introduced to indepth Bible study guides and my spiritual life just took off.

I’m smiling as I write this because I’m so excited about all I’ve learned and further excited about all I still have to learn. You see, discovering depths about God and His will for this earth and for me, and the wonder of Himself – why, it is liberating and joyous – and I want this for everyone!!

I’m not suggesting this as one of those “do the right thing with God and all your troubles will disappear and you’ll get a check for a million dollars.” No, no – it’s not like that at all. I’m talking about a relationship with the God of all creation. I’m talking about learning who He is and being blown away with the wonder of it all. I’m talking about gradually growing closer and closer to a power that will ease your heartache, comfort your pain and loneliness, and fulfill your inner person like no one else can. It doesn’t mean “no more problems in life,” but rather during those problems, the One in control of all things will be holding your hand and reminding you that He loves you and has a purpose for all things.

It is important to remember that God has a purpose for every raindrop and every ray of sunlight that comes into your life.
Well, if I haven’t lost you with my sermonizing (sorry, I just can’t help myself!), tune in again and I’ll share more about my days and – most assuredly include more sermonizing!

I’m off to see “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” during the first day’s showings. I absolutely loved the first “Raiders.” It is one of my favorite all-time movies (“The Last of the Mohicans” with Daniel Day-Lewis is another). I’ll give a movie review when I return (:
